Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has got a big responsibility. Naqvi has been appointed as the new president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Naqvi has replaced Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) chief Shammi Silva. Naqvi took over the post on 3 April (Thursday) and he will hold this post for two years.
The decision to make Mohsin Naqvi the chairman was taken during the online meeting of members of ACCC. Shammi Silva became the new ACC President after Jai Shah took over as President of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in December last year. Now Naqvi has taken his place.
Mohsin Naqvi said about this responsibility, ‘I am very respected by taking this post in the Asian Cricket Council. Asia remains the heartbeat of world cricket. I am committed to working with all member countries to enhance the development and global impact of the game.
Mohsin Naqvi further says, ‘We will open new opportunities together, promote more cooperation and take Asian cricket to unprecedented heights. I thank the outgoing chairman for his leadership and contribution to the ACC during his term.
On the other hand, Shammi Silva said, ‘It has been an honor for me to work as the President of the Asian Cricket Council. Our board members have been important in increasing the stature of ACC in the entire region. I thank ICC President Jai Shah, under whose leadership the ACC achieved important achievements. I am confident that the ACC will continue its remarkable journey under Naqvi’s competent leadership.
Mohsin Naqvi’s first assignment is the Asia Cup 2025, which is going to be held in September. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is at the forefront to host this tournament of six teams. Although India is the host country nominated for the Asia Cup, ACC can approve the United Arab Emirates as a neutral venue.
