PM modi sri lanka visit: India and Sri Lanka signed an agreement on defense cooperation on Saturday (5 April 2025). Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while presenting the blueprint of bilateral cooperation, emphasized that the security of the two countries is connected to each other and depends. This defense agreement is considered a major step towards strengthening strategic relations. The agreement was reached nearly four decades after the intervention of the Indian Peace Defense Army in Sri Lanka.
India, UAE together will develop energy center in Sri Lanka
To prevent China’s growing influence in the Indian Ocean, India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) together will develop Tinkomali as energy center in Sri Lanka. The three countries signed the agreement during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka. The agreement has increased India’s competition with China, whose government energy company Cinopec has signed an agreement to create a $ 3.2 billion oil refinery in Sri Lanka’s southern port city of Hambantota.
Tinkomali agreement will benefit from Tinkomali agreement
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Disinayake also inaugurated the Samapur Solar Energy Project through digital medium. PM Modi said, “Sampur solar power plant will be helpful for the energy security of Sri Lanka. The agreements made to build a multi-product pipeline and to develop Tinkomali as an energy center will benefit all the people of Sri Lanka. ”He said that the grid inter-contact agreement between the two countries will open power export options for Sri Lanka. PM Modi said that Sri Lanka has a special place in India’s neighboring first policy and vision ocean.
Both countries sign several agreements
Foreign Secretary Vikram Egyptian said that the natural port located in the east of Sri Lanka, the construction of an energy center in the strategically important city of Tinkomali will be included in the construction of a multi-product pipeline. He said that it may also include the use of the tank farm of the Second World War time, some part of which is with the Sri Lankan subsidiary of the Oil Corporation of India. India and Sri Lanka also signed agreements on power grid connectivity, digitization, security and healthcare.
