Prime Minister Narendra Modi also responded to US President Donald Trump from Varanasi on Saturday (August 02, 2025). PM Modi said that India is going to become the third largest economy in the world. Trump announced the tariff and described India’s economy as a ‘dead economy’.
PM Modi said, ‘Today the economy of the world is going through many apprehensions, there is an atmosphere of instability. In such a situation, the countries of the world are focusing on their interests. India also has to be aware of its economic interests. Our farmers, our small scale industries, employment to our youth, their interest is paramount for us. The government is making every effort in this direction.
People take pledge for Swadeshi: PM Modi
He said, ‘Our government is making every effort in the best interest of the country. Those who want the good of the country and want to see India as the third largest economy in the world, no matter what political party, they should forget their differences and take a pledge for ‘indigenous’ products.
The Prime Minister appealed to the traders that when the world is going through this kind of instability, we will also sell only indigenous goods. This resolution will also be the true service of the country. Now only indigenous will buy every moment. This will be a great tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.
Trump announced 25 percent tariff
On July 31, US President Trump announced 25 percent tariff and extra fine on all imports from India. A day later, he attacked the relations between India-Russia. Trump had described the two countries as’ dead economy and said that he did not care what India does with Russia.
On social media platform Truth social, Trump wrote, ‘I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can collapse their dead economies together, I don’t mind it.
