Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left for Argentina from Trinidad & Tobago. This visit of PM has been described by Indian Ambassador Ajnish Kumar as a historical opportunity, because it is the first bilateral visit of an Indian Prime Minister in the last five decades.
This tour is the third stop for Prime Minister Modi’s visit to five countries. Prior to this, they have gone to Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago. After this, he will attend the 17th BRICS summit in Brazil and will visit Namibia in the final phase.
Indian Ambassador Ajnish Kumar told the news agency that Prime Minister Modi will reach Buenos Aires late in the evening, where the Indian community will welcome him. The next day he will pay tribute to the Plaza de San Martin, the Father of Argentina, General Jose de San Martin. The Foreign Minister of Argentina will also be with him on this occasion.
After this, PM Modi will have an official delegation level talks with Argentina President Xavier Milei. After the talks, President Milai will hold a afternoon feast in his honor. He will then visit the famous Boka Juniors Stadium in Argentina and will see Argentine Football culture closely.
‘PM’s visit is milestone’
Ambassador Ajnish Kumar described the visit as an opportunity to further strengthen the multidimensional relations between the two countries. He said, this visit of Prime Minister Modi is a milestone for our bilateral relations. This journey is taking place after a gap of more than 50 years. India and Argentina are strategic partners since 2019. The Prime Minister met the President of Argentina during the G20 summit in Brazil in November. This tour will strengthen those discussions.
Ambassador Kumar said that India and Argentina have strong cooperation in energy, two -wheelers, agriculture and medicines. Argentina is an agricultural country and Indian tractors are also popular here.
There will be a discussion between the two countries to increase cooperation in areas such as defense, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, business, investment and people.
‘India is the world’s pharmacy’
He also said that India’s pharmaceutical and medical devices emphasized the strength of the sector. He said that India is called the pharmacy of the world. Our medical devices are already popular in Europe and America. By bringing them to Argentina, the people here will get affordable and quality health services.
Trade will increase by 3-4 years 8 billion dollars
Gustavo Idigoras, president of Argentina’s Food Oil Association, Ciara, has described the visit as the most important in the last 20 years. He said, ‘Argentina needs to establish near economic and business relations with India. The President Milei and his government are fully committed to working with Prime Minister Modi. Our target is to increase bilateral trade of more than $ 5 billion to 8 billion in the next 3-4 years.
Let us know that there is already good cooperation between India and Argentina in areas like energy, two -wheelers and agriculture. Argentina’s lithium, copper and rich reserves of other rare minerals can meet India’s clean energy and industrial development needs. The two countries signed a memorandum for cooperation on mineral resources in August 2022 and in January 2025 it had a meeting of the first joint work group.
