Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, while mentioning some other decisions of the Union Cabinet including increasing the allocation for ‘Crop Insurance Scheme’, said that the first decision of the government in the new year is dedicated to the farmers. He also said in a series of posts on the social media platform ‘X’ that the central government led by him is fully committed to furthering the welfare of farmers.
The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister approved the continuation of the Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme and the Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme till 2025-26 with a total outlay of Rs 69,515.71 crore from the year 2021-22 to the year 2025-26. This decision will help farmers across the country in risk coverage of crops from unpreventable natural disasters by 2025-26.
‘Annadata’s crops will get more protection’
Referring to this decision, the Prime Minister said, “The first decision of the new year is dedicated to the crores of farmer brothers and sisters of our country. We have approved increasing the allocation for crop insurance. While this will provide more security to the farmers’ crops, the worry of loss will also be reduced.
He said, “Our government is fully committed to furthering the welfare of farmers. We are proud of all our farmer sisters and brothers who work hard to feed our nation. The first of 2025, the Cabinet decision is dedicated to increasing the prosperity of our farmers. I am happy that important decisions have been taken in this regard.
‘DAP will be available at affordable prices’
Referring to the decision of the Union Cabinet to increase the one-time special package to Rs 3,850 crore to ensure supply of DAP fertilizer to farmers at affordable rates, the Prime Minister said that this will ensure availability of DAP to farmers at affordable prices. With this decision of the Cabinet, farmers will be able to get a bag of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) weighing 50 kg for Rs 1,350.
