In the multi-mill dollars scam of Punjab National Bank (PNB), Nirav Modi’s brother-in-law Mayank Mehta has been apologized by the special CBI court. Now Mayank Mehta will become an appropriate in this matter. Special CBI Judge AV. Gujarathi accepted Mehta’s apology on 22 September. The court placed a condition that the Mehta would make full and true disclosure about every aspect and people related to the case. According to the court order, Mehta will be recorded as an apprehension after receiving the apology.
Mehta has been living in a British citizen and Hong Kong for nearly 35 years. He is accused under Sections 120-B (conspiracy), 420 (fraud), 409 (misuse of trust) and Prevention of Corruption Act in the case registered by the CBI. In his petition, Mehta said that he has already been apologized in the cases filed under the Money Laundering Act (PMLA), and the basic incident in these cases is the CBI case. Mehta also told that he had taken an initiative to attend the hearing in India in September 2021.

Mehta’s lawyer Amit Desai said that his strength has helped in many aspects of the prosecution and the Government of India. Public prosecutor Arvind Agra also did not object to Mehta’s petition. The court ordered after hearing the arguments of both the parties and under the provisions of the Indian Civil Protection Code (BNSS) that Mehta would be recorded as an appropriate.
The court directed that Mehta, who is currently abroad, will be directed to appear to India soon to attend the hearing. The prosecution was instructed to take necessary steps to come to India and participate in the hearing.

The main accused in this case are fugitive diamond merchant Mehul Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi. Both are accused of alleged manipulation of more than Rs 13 thousand crore from PNB. It is alleged that he misused letters of undertaking (LOU) and Foreign Letters of Credit (FLCs) by bribing the officials of the bank’s Brady House branch. Choksi is facing extradition process in Belgium, while Nirav Modi is in London Jail.
