The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday (July 22, 2025) has made a claim regarding the special intensive revision of the voter list of Bihar. The Election Commission has claimed that all major political parties were involved in the special intensive revision (SIR) of the Bihar voter list and they deployed more than 1.5 lakh booth level agents (BLA) for access to eligible voters. But the same political parties are opposing this practice in the Supreme Court of the country.
Starting from Bihar on 24 June, ECI had decided to revise the voter list across India. In the affidavit filed in the petition challenging this decision, the Election Commission of India (ECI) claimed that it has complete powers to protect and maintain the purity of elections, including preparing a voter list.
Election Commission argued in Supreme Court
The Election Commission of India argued in the Supreme Court that for this purpose, it has started from Bihar and directed to conduct special intensive revision of voter list across India. The Election Commission said, “Some petitioners before the Supreme Court were MPs and MLAs of recognized political parties of Bihar, who were also assisting in SIR practice by providing booth level agents (BLA), but are protesting against it by going to court.

The Election Commission of India has released the complete data of booth level agents (BLA) deployed by all recognized political parties of Bihar for special intensive revision in Bihar.
The Commission said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar 52,698, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) 47,506, Janata Dal United (JDU) 35,799, Congress 16,676, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) 1,153, Indian Communist Party (Male) 1,271, Marxist Communist Party (Campaign) The party posted 1,913, Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (Rolaspa) 270, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) 74 and Aam Aadmi Party deployed a booth level agent (BLA).
