Jagdeep Dhankhar announced his resignation under Article 67 (A) of the Constitution, citing health related causes and medical advice in a letter addressed to President Draupadi Murmu. In his letter addressed to President Murmu, Jagdeep Dhankhar wrote, ‘I am resigning from the post of Vice President of India with immediate effect while following the priority of health and medical advice.’ He thanked the President for his cooperation and cordial relations. Dhankhar third Vice President who did not complete his term
There were two more Vice Presidents before Jagdeep Dhankar, who could not complete his term. Krishna Kant was sworn in as Vice President on August 21, 1997. But on July 27, 2002, he died during his tenure. For this reason, he could not complete his term. Apart from this, Varahagiri Venkat Giri also resigned during his tenure as Vice President in 1969 to contest the presidential election.
Dhankar did not remain in office for 3 years
Jagdeep Dhankar was sworn in as the 14th Vice President of India on 11 August 2022. In the Vice Presidential election held on August 6, 2022, he defeated opposition candidate Margaret Alva. Jagdeep Dhankar got 528 votes out of a total of 725, while Margaret Alva got 182 votes. He was the Governor of West Bengal before becoming Vice President.
