Former Haasan MP Prajwal Revanna, who is serving a life sentence in the case of rape of a domestic worker, has challenged this decision in the Karnataka High Court. On August 2, the lower court convicted Revanna and sentenced him to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 11 lakh. This amount was ordered to be given to the victim as compensation.
In his appeal, Revanna has questioned the prosecution arguments and police investigation. He says that the FIR in this case was recorded three years after the incident, which doubts the credibility of the entire case. He also said that the woman who made allegations against him had attended the home entry program of her farmhouse in 2023, while the incident is being reported in 2020. According to him, this fact itself weakens the allegations.

Revanna’s lawyers also argued that there were many flaws in the police investigation. The defense said that the mobile phone that allegedly had a video of the alleged attack was never seized. Apart from this, there is a contradiction in the forensic report of the room from which the semen was claimed to recover clothes. The woman also did not identify the bags and clothes recovered by the police, which raises questions on the authenticity of the evidence.
Case inspired by politics
The appeal also said that the prosecution was inspired by the political purpose and there was a serious lapse at several levels from registering the FIR to the collecting evidence. Revanna has demanded the High Court to cancel the decision of the lower court and acquit them.

The lower court found Revanna guilty
On the other hand, the lower court had said in its order that the prosecution presented enough evidence and the statements of video, forensic material and witnesses prove to be Revanna’s role. Now this case will be heard in the High Court, where Revanna’s appeal will be considered.
