The central government gave information in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday (March 18, 2025) about the stampede held at Mahakumbh held in Prayagraj. It was informed that the Uttar Pradesh government investigated the incident of stampede during Mahakumbh and their (Center) does not have the figure of casualties in such incidents.
Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, Congress MP KC Venugopal and K.K. Giving a written answer to a question of Namdev, he shared this information.
‘Law and police state subjects’
The Union Minister said, ‘According to the seventh schedule of the Constitution, law and order is the subjects of the state’. He said that organizing religious programs, mob management, arrangements for facilities for devotees, prevention of any kind of disaster during programs, etc. are associated with folk system, which is the subject of the state.
‘The data of such accidents in the state does not have the data’
Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said in a written reply, ‘Any type of disaster in any state, including any kind of disaster and the provision of financial assistance to the families of dead devotees and injured persons also comes under the purview of the concerned state governments. State governments are capable of dealing with such situations. No such data is kept centrally.
What PM Modi said in Lok Sabha regarding Mahakumbh
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday described Mahakumbh as a symbol of the power and spiritual consciousness of the country in the Lok Sabha. PM Modi said that during the Ram temple Pran Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya last year, we realized how our country is being prepared for the coming 1,000 years.
PM Modi said, ‘There are some moments in history which become an example for generations to come. The way the spiritual consciousness was awakened during the Bhakti movement, the Mahakumbh is also an event reviving cultural and spiritual consciousness’. Giving the example of Mauritius, PM Modi said that when he offered the holy water of Mahakumbh in the Ganges pond, there was a festive atmosphere in the whole country.
