Pregnant elephant death: A case of ruthless murder of pregnant elephant has come to light on the Assam-Meghalaya border. The hunters killed the elephant and cut her flesh and her rotten body was found in the East Apparla Reserve Forest in Topatoli village near Guwahati. On receiving the information of the incident, the police and forest department team reached the spot and started the investigation.

According to a PTI report, a senior official said that the body was seen inside the proposed Reserve Forest, near Topatoli village on the outskirts of the state capital. The body was rotten and we found that the hunters had cut some part of the meat. However, the fetus was still there.

Doubt on hunters from Assam-Meghalaya border
He said that according to the initial investigation, Hathini was killed by suspected hunters from Meghalaya about 15 days ago. We have informed the Forest Department of Meghalaya and they are starting an investigation on that side. He said that the forest department has registered a criminal case and started investigation and information has also been given to the Meghalaya Forest Department so that the culprits can be caught as soon as possible.

Demand for strict action arose
Please tell that this incident has shaken wildlife conservation organizations. People are demanding early arrest and severe punishment of the accused. There have been incidents of elephants hunting in Assam earlier, but this time carrying the pregnant elephant and carrying meat shows the increasing courage of wildlife criminals. However, the Forest Department has said that the culprits will be arrested soon and strict legal action will be taken against them.
