The by -election will be held today in the Ludhiana West Assembly seat of Punjab. Voting will run from 7 am to 6 pm. 1,75,469 voters will vote on this seat, for which 194 polling stations have been set up.

The by -election remains a direct contest between four major parties, including Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal. The results will be declared on 23 June.
The seat was vacant after the death of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi being shot. Interestingly, AAP has fielded its Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora on this seat.
Security strong, monitoring from control room
Strict security arrangements have been made for voting. The district administration has arranged for depositing mobiles and CCTV monitoring of polling stations. A total of 235 cameras have been installed. The Integrated Command Control Center will lead to live monitoring of the entire election.
776 government employees, including central and state personnel, banks and PSU officials, have been on duty. A total of 194 polling parties have been formed, including 194 presiding officers, 194 assistant presiding officers and 388 polling officers.

BJP has made Jeevan Gupta a candidate On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has declared Jeevan Gupta as its candidate in the by -election for Ludhiana West Assembly seat. The party’s Central Election Committee has approved his name. Jeevan Gupta has been the general secretary of the state BJP twice. He is a car accessories and car business dealer. Gupta’s background is from RSS. It has been about 35 years since he has been in political.
Why the assembly by-election is going on … The seat is vacant since the death of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi (57) of Ludhiana West. Bassi died after being shot about 4 months ago. At the time when the bullet fired, he was eating food. Hearing the sound of firing from the room, his wife Sukhchain Kaur and son Vishwas reached the spot and Gogi fell into a blood -soaked room.
His postmortem was conducted at DMC Hospital. It was found that the bullet hit the right side of his head and passed out of the left side. He was then cremated at the crematorium near KVM School in Ludhiana.
