In the Nanakshahi calendar, it has been decided to celebrate it in the month of January i.e. Magh.
This time this fair has started from 11th January. On January 14, offerings of Akhand Paath will be offered here. On January 15, there will be city kirtan along with horse racing and horse competitions. After which the fair will traditionally end.

Battle of Khidrane: 40 Sikhs withdrew from the fight, then fought in such a way that they even sacrificed their lives.
1. Guru Gobind Singh Ji was fighting with Mughal soldiers, 40 Sikhs left him due to hunger and thirst. According to Sikh historians, in Bikrami Samvat 1761, the tenth Guru Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji was fighting the Mughal soldiers in Kila Anandpur Sahib. Ration and water were running out in the fort. Seeing this, 40 Sikhs said that they cannot fight hungry and thirsty. On this, Guru Gobind Singh Ji told him to give it in writing that I am not your Guru and you are not my disciple. He gave it in writing and left the fight and went to his home.
2. 2 Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh Ji attained martyrdom. After the battle of Kila Anandpur, Guru Gobind Singh ji reached the fort of Chamkaur Sahib. There he had a fight with Mughal soldiers. In this, two Sahibzades of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Bhai Ajit Singh and Bhai Jujhar Singh attained martyrdom.
3. Family members cursed 40 Sikhs for returning home From the fort of Chamkaur, Guru Gobind Singh ji set up his camp in the high sandy dunes of Khidrane ki Dhab (Muktsar). Here, when 40 Sikhs told about leaving the fight at home, the family members cursed them a lot. He said that he should have left Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s side during times of trouble. The women of the family said that all of you sit at home, we will fight as an army with Guru ji. Then Mai Bhago also inspired 40 Sikhs to fight.

4. 40 Sikhs returned, brought the Mughal army to its knees. Hearing the taunts of his family members and being encouraged by Mai Bhago, he again set out in search of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He reached Khidrane Dhab, where Guru Gobind Singh ji was staying. They also camped near a reservoir.
Then the Mughal army also reached there in search of Guru Gobind Singh ji. They attacked these 40 Sikhs. Then these 40 Sikhs fought in such a way that they brought the Mughal army to its knees. The Mughal army had to flee from there. 39 Sikhs were martyred in this battle. One brother Maha Singh was injured. Then Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji reached there and keeping Maha Singh’s head in his lap said that all of you have saved the honor of Sikhism today.
5. Guru Gobind Singh tore the letter and said, this is the land of 40 free people. Guru Gobind Singh Ji told Maha Singh to ask whatever he wanted. On this, Maha Singh said that forgive us and tear the letter (claim) which he had given in the fort of Anandpur. Fix our broken knot i.e. make us your disciple. Then Guru Gobind Singh ji took out that letter from his waist and tore it. He said that this place is not an abode of humiliation but an abode of liberation. Later Maha Singh also attained martyrdom.
6. Performed the last rites of 40 Sikhs with his own hands. After this, Guru Gobind Singh ji collected the mortal remains of all the 40 Sikhs from the battlefield. After this a big pyre was built. Then Guru Gobind Singh ji performed the last rites of all the 40 Sikhs with his own hands. Gurudwara Shaheed Ganj is now built at this place. Where the Bedawa (letter) was torn, Gurdwara Tutti Gandi Sahib was built there.
