Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday met the senior colleague of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and discussed the deteriorating situation in West Asia and the issues of Iran’s nuclear program. The visit of Ali Larijani, senior advisor to Iran’s supreme leader, is taking place by Putin about a month after the meeting of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi.
Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov told reporters, “On behalf of the Iranian leadership, Ali Larijani shared assessment of the current tension in the Middle East and the status related to the Iranian nuclear program.”
Strategic partnership between the two countries
On 23 June, President Putin told Tehran during his meeting with Araghchi that Moscow would support Moscow in reducing the Israeli-Iran struggle only hours after the US attacks on the Iranian nuclear sites on the morning of 22 June.
Moscow and Tehran have signed a strategic partnership treaty, but there is no provision of military assistance in the event of an attack on any party.

Russia supports Tehran’s right to pursue civil nuclear research under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAA). Pre -reports stated that Larizani played an important role in the interaction and approval of the passive joint comprehensive action plan (JCPOA), now as the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament.
He played an important role in solving domestic political fervor and gaining parliamentary support for the agreement, which included concessions from Iran for relief in restrictions.
However, US President Donald Trump was out of the agreement under the pressure of Israel in his first term. Trump ordered bombing at Iranian nuclear sites and demanded that Tehran’s enrichment activities have been completely discontinued under the civil nuclear program, which has been allowed under the NPT, which Iran has signed.
