Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday intensified the demand for transparency from the Election Commission and urged the digital voter list and the release of CCTV footage after 5 pm in the polling stations in Maharashtra. His move has come amid the ongoing conflict with the Election Commission, which has rejected his allegations of ‘match fixing’ in the 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections. Election Commission sources said, ‘It is very strange that Rahul Gandhi keeps asking for the Election Commission directly to the Election Commission, repeatedly seeking answers to his baseless doubts on another platform. On December 24, 2024, the Election Commission has written a detailed letter to the Congress by writing a detailed letter on similar issues. It is not clear why Rahul Gandhi personally is reluctant to get a letter to the Election Commission by receiving an answer? ‘
Rahul Gandhi wrote in a post on social media platform x, ‘Dear Election Commission, you are a constitutional body. It is not a way to answer serious questions to the mediators without signature. If you have nothing to hide, answer the questions asked in my article and prove this by publishing digital voter list for the recent elections of all the states including Maharashtra and releasing all the CCTV footage after 5 pm from the polling stations in Maharashtra. The delay will not protect your credibility. By telling the truth, your credibility will be safe.

The Election Commission on Saturday dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s claim of rigging in the results of last year’s Maharashtra Assembly elections as unclear and completely absurd and denied the allegations of Congress MP’s voter fraud. The Election Commission said, “It is completely absurd to try to discredit the Election Commission by alleging match fixing after any adverse decision by voters.” Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi shared his article in the Indian Express claiming that the results of the Maharashtra assembly elections were made in favor of BJP through rigging and the names of fake voters were added to voter lists.
He further alleged that the law controlling the appointment of Election Commissioners and Chief Election Commissioner was amended, so that the Chief Justice (CJI) of India (CJI) from the panel responsible for their selection could be removed and the Center could be huge benefits. The Election Commission dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s claims of ‘match fixing’, saying that the entire voting process was done in a transparent manner and agents of all political parties were present at polling stations and counting centers. The Election Commission said that the authorized agents of the Congress never raised any objection or complaint about unusual voting.
How to Steal An Election?
Maharashtra Assembly Elections in 2024 was a Blueprint for Rigging Democracy.
My article shows how this happy, step by step:
Step 1: Rig the panel for appointing the election commission
Step 2: Add fake voters to the roll
Step 3: Inflate Voter… pic.twitter.com/ntcwtpvxtu– Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) June 7, 2025
Describing Rahul Gandhi’s allegations as’ baseless’, the Election Commission reiterated that it had responded to similar allegations made by the Congress soon after the Maharashtra assembly election results, stating, ‘The Election Commission had put all these facts in its reply to the Congress on December 24, 2024, which are available on the Election Commission website. It seems that while raising such issues again and again, all these facts are being completely ignored. The Congress -led India Block faced a derogatory defeat in the Maharashtra assembly elections last year, in which it won only 46 seats out of 288 seats, while a few months ago it overtook the BJP -led Mahayuti alliance in the Maharashtra Lok Sabha elections. After this disappointing performance in the state assembly elections, Rahul Gandhi claimed that 70 lakh voters were mysteriously added to the voter list of Maharashtra between the 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. In response, the Election Commission shared the data which showed that between two elections, 40.81 lakh voters were added not 70 lakhs in 5 months.

Election Commission responded on Rahul Gandhi’s allegations
Rejecting Rahul Gandhi’s allegations, the ECI said in its statement, ‘Voter lists in India including Maharashtra are prepared according to the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and Voter Registration Rules, 1960. According to the law, either just before the elections and/or once every year, the voter lists are amended and the last copy of the voter lists is handed over to all the national/state political parties including the Indian National Congress (INC). The ECI statement further said, ‘After finalizing these voter lists during the Maharashtra elections, only 89 appeals were filed before the first Appellate Authority (DM), against 9,77,90,752 voters and only 1 appeal was filed before the Second Appellate Authority (CEO). Therefore, it is completely clear that there was no complaint about the voter list of the Congress or any other political party before the Maharashtra assembly elections were held in 2024.
The Election Commission further said, ‘6,40,87,588 voters reached the polling station from 7 am to 6 pm during the Maharashtra assembly elections. On an average, around 58 lakh votes were cast per hour. According to these average trends, about 1 crore 16 lakh voters must have voted in the last two hours. Therefore, 65 lakh votes by voters in two hours are much lower than voting trends average per hour. Apart from this, every polling station was voted in front of polling agents appointed formally by candidates/political parties. The nominated candidates of the Congress or their authorized agents did not make any confirmation allegations about any unusual voting at the time of investigation before the Returning Officer (RO) and election observers the next day.
