Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Answers on Sell of General Ticket at Ndls on Stampede Day

Ndls stampede: In the stampede case at New Delhi railway station during Mahakumbh, an information has been given by the Central Government in Parliament. The Railway Ministry told the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that 13,000 more general tickets were sold daily at New Delhi railway station on February 15 at New Delhi railway station. Please tell that 18 people died at the station due to stampede on this day.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said in a written reply to TMC MP Mala Roy in a written reply, “On February 16, about 49,000 general tickets were issued from New Delhi railway station, which were 13,000 more than the daily average of tickets sold during the last six months.” However, the minister also informed that five Kumbh special trains were run from NSLS to meet this additional demand, each of which had a seating area of 3,000 passengers.

He also informed that unreserved tickets issued from a station in any one day may or may not be for that station and date. Actually, there is a trend by passengers to buy tickets even before the date of travel.

Was tickets sales unusually high? If yes, then why?
In response to this question, the Railway Minister said that it is not necessary that these tickets were sold from the station counter itself. He informed that unreserved tickets can be purchased through various ticket counters. Ashwini Vaishnav said, ‘Unreserved tickets can be purchased on the same day for a distance up to 199 km, while the advance period of purchasing unreserved tickets for a distance of 200 km and more is three days. Apart from this, unreserved tickets can be issued for the journey starting from any one of the clusters of a railway station, ie from New Delhi railway station, unreserved tickets can be issued for the journey starting from any of 57 stations in Delhi region.
