The Meghalaya Police has completely revealed the knot of Raja Raghuvanshi murder. All 5 accused have been taken in 8 days police custody. After the first day’s inquiry, Eastern Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syem made sensational revelations. In the press conference, the SP said that Raj Kushwaha is the mastermind of this murder, while Sonam was his partner. All the accused have confessed their crime. This murder was the result of love affair and family pressure, in which no betel nut was given, but in the name of friendship, three other accused supported the murder.
SP Vivek Syem revealed that Raj Kushwaha started plotting to assassinate the king 11 days before Sonam’s wedding i.e. in May 2025. In February 2025, Raj and Sonam together made two alternative plans. In the first plan, Sonam was to suddenly disappear, so that she felt that she was swept away in the river. In the second plan, someone else was killed and her body was to be set on fire by putting her body on Sonam’s scooty, so that Sonam was killed. However, both these plans did not succeed and Sonam had to marry the king of Indore on May 11 under family pressure.
The police captain of Shillong told that the love affair of Sonam and Raj Kushwaha was going on, but whether Sonam’s family was aware of whether it was a matter of investigation. Sonam probably had no way left except murder, because she did not want to marry the king.
Conspiracy game started from Kamakhya Temple
Sonam brought her husband Raja to Guwahati on the pretext of visiting Kamakhya Temple. Meanwhile, the three other accused Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan and Anand Kurmi reached Guwahati on 19 May. One of these accused is Raj Kushwaha’s cousin.
According to the SP, the initial plan was killed by the king in Guwahati and for this the accused also raked in the city. But when this plan failed, Sonam made a new plan and took Raja to Sohra (Cherrapunji).
Wei murdered in Wei Sawdong on 23 May
On May 23, Sonam and Raja came out of the homestay of Nogrit village and reached the parking lot of Weisavadong Falls in Sohra. SP Vivek told that the murder was carried out between 2:00 pm and 2:18 pm. When the king went to the toilet, the three accused attacked him. Sonam was present on the spot at that time. After the murder, the king’s body was thrown into the ditch.
The raincoat that Sonam wore after the murder had blood stains. He gave the raincoat to the sky. There was also blood on the shirt of the sky. The four accused left the murder site at 2:18 pm. Sonam ran a scooty herself, while Anand ran another scooty, on which the king and Sonam were riding earlier. When they reached the Ad View Point, Akash got down from Scooty and threw the raincoat. After this, Sonam sat behind and Akash ran scooty.
Sonam’s escape and use of burqa
The SP said that Vishal gave Sonam a burqa, which was prepared by lover Raj Kushwaha beforehand. Sonam, wearing a burqa, reached Shillong from Mavakadok by taxi, then went to Guwahati. From there he took a bus from Siliguri from ISBT, reached Lucknow from Siliguri to Patna, Patna and Ara by train. She reached Indore with a bus from Lucknow. Sonam was in Indore from 26 May to 8 June.
Raj’s kidnapping drama and Sonam’s surrender
SP Vivek revealed that when a local guide told the police that there were three other people with Raja and Sonam, this information was leaked in the media. Raj came to know that the police had identified three people. After this, Raj asked Sonam to leave Indore and pretend to go to Siliguri and become a victim of kidnapping. On June 8, Sonam was about to leave Indore, but the same day the police arrested one of the accused from Uttar Pradesh. Raj panicked and instructed Sonam to call his family and asked him that he was kidnapped and somehow escaped. After this, Sonam surrendered in front of the police in Ghazipur on 8 June.
No betel nut, murdered in friendship
The SP made it clear that this is not a case of betel nut killing. Raj Kushwaha prepared his friends Akash, Vishal and Anand for murder. No large amount was given, but Raj had given only Rs 59,000 for spending. The police is now investigating the economic aspect, but in the preliminary investigation, the case of this love affair (love angle) has come up.
Three times failed, successful for the fourth time
According to the police, the accused tried to kill the king at four different places. The first attempt failed in Guwahati. In the second Nonghariah, where the corpse was not found in place. The plan failed in the third Mavalkhiyat as well. Finally, the murder was carried out on 23 May near Dong Falls.
A stock of evidence, claim sheet claims in 90 days
SP Vivek said that the police have enough evidence, including 48 CCTV footage, blood -soaked shirt, raincoat, khukri (murder), scooter rental record, Aadhaar card copy, train and bus tickets, call detail records and mobile location data. The three betel nut killers have confessed to the preliminary inquiry. The police is preparing to file a charge sheet within 90 days. Sonam’s mobile phone has not been recovered yet, which can give more evidence.
Sonam’s plan: Kidnapping drama and unknown corpse
The police officer said that Sonam’s plan was that he came forward as a victim of kidnapping. She was hoping that the king’s body would not be recognized after rotting and she would escape as a victim. However, a strong police investigation and the testimony of the guide exposed the conspiracy.
Further investigation and recreation
SP Vivek said that the first day has been questioned in the eight -day remand. More remand will be taken if needed. The police will soon recreate the crime scene on the same way. On mentioning a person named Jitendra, the SP said that there is no information about this. At the same time, Sonam’s family was aware of his affair with Raj or not.
