The Supreme Court will give a verdict in the case related to shortage of CCTV cameras in police stations today. The court reserved the verdict while hearing the case on 15 September.

The court in its order can also direct the states and the central government to install CCTV cameras in the offices of police station and investigative agencies.

Taking action on a report by Dainik Bhaskar related to Rajasthan, the court had said that due to lack of CCTV in police stations, it is becoming difficult to surveillance.

In fact, on 4 September 2025, Dainik Bhaskar’s report came, which mentioned 11 deaths in police custody in Rajasthan in the last 8 months.

A bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta had said that the issue is about monitoring. Tomorrow, officers can close the camera in the police station, but we want a control room in which human intervention is minimized.

Justice Mehta had said- Monitoring AI based

Justice Sandeep Mehta had said- Police stations should also be investigated by private agency. We can consider creating such a system by including IIT’s. They give us a software that can monitor every CCTV feed. This monitoring should be completely AI based, not human.
