Ranya Rao’s father DGP Ramchandra Rao was sent to Compulsory Leave, Jail is jailed in gold smuggling

DGP Ramchandra Rao, father of actress Ranya Rao, arrested in the case of gold smuggling, has been sent to compulsory leave. According to sources, the government has taken this step after the investigation intensified in gold smuggling.

At the same time, Ranya Rao filed a second bail petition in the Sessions Court on Saturday. Earlier on Friday, the Magistrate Court rejected his bail plea. Ranya’s lawyers have filed a petition demanding relief from the court. His bail plea is likely to be heard in the sessions court on Monday.

Earlier, Kannada actress Ranya Rao made serious allegations against DRI officials. Ranya has accused the Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI) officials that during interrogation he was slapped several times, not given food and DRI officials forced him to sign the vacant documents.

In a letter to the Additional Director General of DRI, Ranya described himself as innocent and said that he has been implicated in a false case. Kannada actress Ranya Rao, daughter of a senior police officer, was arrested by the Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI) on 4 March 2025 from the Kemp Gowda International Airport in Bengaluru. She was trying to smuggle 14.8 kg of gold from Dubai. The price of this gold has been estimated at around Rs 12 crore.

In his letter sent through the Chief Superintendent of Parappana Agarhara Jail, Ranya claimed that he was arrested inside the aircraft and the DRI took him into custody without giving him a chance to clarify. Ranya said, “Ever since I was detained, I was physically harassed till I was produced in court, the officers I can identify, they slapped me 1015 times. Despite repeated assault, I refused to sign the statements prepared by him.”
