New Delhi: Former India -off -spinner R Ashwin thought of retiring after his 100th Test, but the decision was taken in the midst of the tour of Australia so that the ‘entire circle’ about his place in the playing XI would not be repeated again.
In the new podcast of Chennai Super Kings, Ashwin told Chennai team fellow Mike Husi that he had decided to retire after not getting a place in the team in the Perth Test against Australia. In that match, Washington Sundar got a chance to play Ashwin.

He said, ‘I thought I will retire after the Chennai Test (against Bangladesh), but then I took six wickets and scored a century. It is very difficult to leave while performing well.
Ashwin said, ‘I played again and then we lost to New Zealand. Then I thought that let’s see on the tour of Australia how the performance is. My performance on Australia tour last time was good.

Ashwin, who took 537 Test wickets for India, said, ‘I was enjoying the game, but was working very hard physically and mentally for this. The most important thing was that I wanted to spend time with the family.
He said, ‘Then when the Perth did not get a place in the test, I thought that this whole circle is not to be repeated again. In the eyes of people, there is very low price for your emotion. They do not understand what feelings you are going through. I was thinking about retirement and then I felt that this is the right time.
