Reservation for Muslim Contractors in Karnataka Siddaramaiah Cabinet Approves Amendment to KTPP Act

Quota for Muslim Contractors: The Karnataka cabinet has approved amendment in the Transparency (KTPP) Act in Karnataka public procurement. The cabinet decided that the KTPP Act would be introduced in the current assembly session and after that amendment will be made. Changes have been made in this act only so that reservation can be given to Muslim contractors in government tenders. The limit of this reservation is to be kept 4 percent. This information has been revealed by quoting sources.

The decision was taken in a meeting held at the Cabinet Hall of the Assembly on Friday (March 14) under the chairmanship of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Earlier on March 7, during the presentation of the budget of the Government of Karnataka, it was confirmed that reservation will be given to Muslims in government contracts.

Reservation in tender up to one crore
Reservation will be given to suppliers in tenders of up to one crore in the purchase of goods and services under government departments, corporations and institutions. In this, Muslims have been included under a category.

BJP’s objection
Ever since the Congress government of Karnataka had talked about giving reservation to Muslim contractors in government tenders, the opposition party ‘BJP’ has been sieging the Congress at the national level. The BJP is once again presenting this decision of the Siddaramaiah government with Muslim appeasement. Among many BJP leaders, this move of the Congress government of the state has also been called anti -Hindu. However, despite this, the Siddaramaiah government came to its promise and the cabinet prepared a way for Muslim reservation.
