Ruckus on putting Tulsi platform instead of fruit sales, arson -stones between two groups in Bengal – Kolkata Violence two groups fight police station bike fire BJP accuses ntc

The dispute between two groups turned into a violent clash on Wednesday at Rabindernagar in Maheshtala in South 24 Parganas district near Kolkata. On seeing the matter started with a minor shop dispute, arson, stone pelting and lathicharge reached. Many policemen were injured in this violence and police vehicles were vandalized.

Kolkata police said that at least five people have been injured in this clash and so far four people have been arrested. Kolkata Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) were deployed on the spot to bring the situation under control.

According to the police, the clash started to set up a Tulsi stage at one place, where a fruit seller used to sell mangoes. The fruit seller had gone somewhere for a few days. Tulsi stage was installed in the middle. Today, when the fruit seller came back, he was agitated after seeing the Tulsi stage at the place where he used to sell the fruit.

Fire in motorcycle in front of police station

The violence intensified when some anti -social elements set the motorcycle on fire in front of the police station. Stoned from the roofs and tires were burnt on the road. Several policemen, including a woman constable, were injured. The administration has taken precautionary measures under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Civil Protection (BNSS) when the matter deteriorated. The section has been implemented in the area and raids are on for the arrest of the accused.

Political controversy started with the fight of two groups

This incident also gave birth to political controversy. Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari demonstrated outside the West Bengal Police Headquarters and demanded the deployment of central forces. He alleged that there was a robbery and violence with the Hindu community in Rabindernagar and the police remained mute spectators. Officials alleged that the police took action against the victims instead of the attackers and accused the state government of communal appeasement. He said that he will take this matter to the Calcutta High Court.

What did TMC say on the allegations?

TMC dismissed these allegations and said that it was a local dispute, which the BJP is trying to forcibly give communal color. Party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said, “The police have taken action rapidly and properly. The BJP wants to disturb peace.” Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim, wishing the injured policemen to get well soon and questioned the BJP’s intention. The police is still stationed in the area, keeping an eye on the situation.
