Russia is rapidly occupying Ukraine, what do you want to do before the meeting in Alaska with Trump?

The Russian Army has registered its biggest 24 -hour lead in Ukraine on Tuesday in more than a year. The lead took place at a time when US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are scheduled to meet in Alaska on Friday. The AFP said on the basis of data from the US -based Institute for the Study of War that on August 12, the Russian Army captured or claimed the 110 square kilometers (42.5 square mi) area, which is the biggest increase compared to the past days. Earlier, in the end of May 2024, such a big one was recorded.

The special thing is that in the Trump-Putin meeting, there will also be a discussion that Moscow will be occupied by Russia in which the parts of Ukraine have occupied the parts of Ukraine. However, Jailonsky is not in this side.

Russian progress intensified
In recent months, Russia usually took five to six days to gain such an edge, but its progress has intensified recently. Ukrainian President Volodimir Jailonsky admitted that the Russian army had moved up to 10 km (six mi) near the Eastern coal mining city called Dobropilia, although he expressed confidence that they would be destroyed soon. Russia on Wednesday claimed that it had captured two villages near Dobropilia.

Donitsk region has the highest occupation
About 70% of Russia’s 2025 has progressed in the Donnetsk region of Eastern Ukraine, which Kremlin claimed to join with him in September 2022. By 12 August 2025, Russia is controlling or claiming 79% of the region, which was 62% a year ago. Russia has been trying to capture the mining city of Pokrovsk since 18 months since capturing Bakhmut in May 2023.

Large danger cities for Ukraine
Ukraine has only two large cities left in the Donnetsk region – Slovesk and Kramatorsk. Of these, the Crime is an important logistic center for the front. Both cities are now in danger.

Points of occupation in last one year
According to AFP analysis, between 12 August 2024 to 12 August 2025, Russia has captured more than 6,100 square kilometers, which is four times more than the previous year. However, this occupation is less than 1% of the total area of the war-pre-war Ukraine, including Crimea and Donbas. Russia currently holds full or partial control over the 19% region of Ukraine.
