Ukraine says he will support Washington’s proposal of a 30 -day ceasefire with Russia. Kiev said that it was a ‘milestone’ talks during which the US agreed to resume military aid and intelligence with Ukraine. Kiev made the announcement after a conversation with Ukrainian and US officials in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the US will now take the jointly signed proposal to Russia, and the ball is now in the court of Moscow.
What is compromise proposal
A joint statement stated that Ukraine has expressed a desire to accept the US proposal to implement an interim-30-day ceasefire immediately, which can be extended by mutual agreement by parties.
Ukrainian President Volodimir Jailonsky said in his video address that the US has proposed a full interim ceasefire, which will prevent missiles, drones and bomb attacks not only in the Black Sea but also on the entire front line.
“Ukraine is ready to accept this proposal – we see it as a positive step and are ready to adopt it.”
The US-Ukraine also emphasized the importance of human relief efforts as part of the peace process, especially during the ceasefire, including the exchange of war, release of civil prisoners and forcibly transferred Ukrainian children. Both sides agreed to decide the names of their dialogue teams and start peace talks immediately.
Trump threatened
When Trump was asked questions about Russia, he said that America has many ways to ruin Russia financially, but they do not want to do so because their purpose is to establish peace. He clarified that if Russia does not adopt the path of conversation, then America can take such steps which will prove to be ‘very bad’ for him.
What will happen next?
Now everyone’s eyes are based on this matter, will Russia accept this proposal. US officials said that they would take the agreement to Moscow.
Trump’s National Security Advisor Mike Waltz is scheduled to meet his Russian counterpart in the coming days and Trump’s special messenger Steve Witchoff is planning to go to Moscow to meet Putin this week. Trump said that he can talk to Putin this week and he hopes that a permanent ceasefire will be discussed in the coming days.
The Russian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday said after the US-Ukraine talks that it had not ruled out the possibility of contact with American representatives.
It is difficult to say what Putin will take on this proposal. The Russian President has said that he is ready to discuss the peace agreement, but he and his diplomats have repeatedly said that they are against the ceasefire and instead they want an agreement that protects Russia’s long-term security.
Putin told his Security Council on January 20 that “there should be no short -term ceasefire, nor should the armies be re -organized and re -organizing with the aim of continuing the struggle, there should be any relief for re -organization, but should be long -term peace.” He also denied regional concessions and said that Ukraine should completely remove Russia’s four Ukrainian regions.
According to media reports, an influential Russian MP said on Wednesday, “Any compromise with full understanding of the requirement of agreement – but not on our terms, not on US terms.
However, there has been a lot of change in the US-Russia relationship since Donald Trump became US President again. Recently, the US and Russian delegations had a peace talks about the Ukraine war in Jeddah.
After the talks, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the parties involved in the US-Russia talks have agreed to establish peace in Ukraine, to form a high-level team to promote economic cooperation.
