A volcano erupted in Russia on Saturday (August 2, 2025) after 600 years. Located in the Kamchatka Peninsula, this volcano was earlier exploded in the year 1463. Its height is 1,856 meters. According to Russia’s official news agency Ria Novosti and scientists, this explosion caused a 6,000 meter high ash. A 7.0 magnitude earthquake also occurred before the volcano erupted.
The cloud of ash was swept away towards the Pacific Ocean due to the explosion of the Crusheninicov volcano. However, there is no threat in the surrounding population areas. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Services has given it an Orange Aviation Code, which indicates that the event can become a possible threat to air transport.
What caused this volcanic activity?
The timing of this explosion does not seem to be coincidental. Volcanologist Olga Girina, who is the head of the Kamchatka volcanic reaction team. He says that this explosion may be associated with the recent earthquake. The earthquake was so powerful that a tsunami warning had to be issued in French Polynesia and Chile. It is the cluchevskoy volcano, which is the most active volcano in the region. There is also an explosion in it.
What did the chief of the volcanic reaction team say?
Volcanologist Olga Girina said that this is the first historically explosion of the crushaninicov volcano. This may probably be inspired by a recent earthquake. In geological science, it is believed that when the Earth’s tectonic plates move, there is pressure in the magma chambers, which can make volcanoes active.
Volcanic and earthquake interaction
Earthquake and volcanic activity often occur simultaneously, especially in areas where plate tectonics are very active. There is also a Kamchatka Peninsula, which is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire. It is one of the most active volcanic regions in the world.
