India Iran Relations: India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar spoke to Iran’s Foreign Minister Syed Abbas Araghchi on Friday (27 June 2025). S Jaishankar thanked him for helping Indian citizens safe out from Iran. He posted on X and said, “Iran’s attitude on the current situation and appreciate them for sharing thinking. Thank you for helping the safe rescue of the citizens.”
Indians were expelled from Iran under Operation Sindhu
During the ongoing war between Israel-Iran, India carried out Operation Indus and brought its citizens home from there. The Ministry of External Affairs said that more than 4,400 Indian citizens have been evacuated from there so far through 19 special flights under Operation Sindhu launched on 18 June.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that India is assessing the situation at the grassroots level and on the basis of this it will be decided whether the campaign should be continued or not. The Ministry of External Affairs Randhir Jaiswal said, “A special aircraft from Yervan, Armenia reached New Delhi on 26 June at 10:30 pm, in which 173 Indian citizens have been brought from Iran.”
More than 4,400 Indian citizens were brought to the country
He said, “Under Operation Sindhu, a total of 4,415 Indian citizens (3,597 from Iran and 818 from Israel) have been extracted through 19 special aircraft including three aircraft of the Indian Air Force.
India had said on June 24 that it is concerned about the whole situation, but welcomes the ceasefire report between Iran and Israel. A few hours after US President Donald Trump claimed a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, India said that it is ready to play its role to resolve the situation. India insisted on adopting the path of talks and diplomacy in terms of moving forward. (With input PTI agency)
