Salman Khan Battling Brain Aneurysm: Bollywood actor Salman Khan revealed about many of his neurological diseases in ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’ telecasted on 21 June. Referring to his 3 diseases, he said that one was brain aneurysm. They told that they are undergoing treatment for this disease and are also working together. After this revelation of Salman, everyone wants to know what this disease is and how they mentioned. To know about brain aneurysm, we spoke to Dr. Abhilash Bansal, Senior Consultant, Neurosurgeon and Spine Surgeon of Sparsh Hospital, Bangalore and went to detail about the disease. So let’s know everything about brain aneurysm.

What is brain aneuryism?

Talking to Aajtak.in, Dr. Abhilash Bansal said, ‘There is a bulge in the weak area of the wall of the aneurysm artery (blood vessel). It is also known as cerebral aneurysm or intracranial aneurysm. It resembles the hanging berry on the stem. Brain annurism can affect people between the ages of 30 to 60 years. Every year about 30,000 people in the US have this and most of its cases are found in Japan.

‘For example, when the air is filled in the bicycle tube, sometimes there is a bulge in the tube which shows that the tube is weak from there. In the same way, there is a bulge like a balloon in the vein wall of the brain, it is called aneurysm. Many times it bursts and sometimes the bulge remains the same. Due to these reasons, bleeding can occur in the brain which causes unbearable pain.

‘Although if aneurysm does not burst, they do not cause more problems, but if they burst, they can make it difficult for life and even in some cases can cause death. It is so dangerous that if it bursts, then 50 % people do not reach the hospital and out of those who reach, 40-50 % of the patients do not go back home. The reason for this is that it can cause stroke, paralysis and even death.

What are the causes of brain aneurysm?

Dr. Abhilash says, ‘Brain aneurysm is formed or its size increases because the blood flowing from blood vesels puts pressure on the weak part of the walls of blood vesels. This causes a balloon -like structure to form and due to continuous pressure, its size increases and it can burst from more time pressure.

‘This is not a stress related disease, it is a mechanical thing. Suppose someone does not have an aneurysm, then it can be caused by personal habits many times. Such as smoking, drinking, alcohol, high blood pressure, diabetes can become an agm in these cases. In many cases it can also be genetics like if the mother happens to her children, her children can also be. Some people have an auto dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), so they are also seen in cases of aneurism.

‘When doing heavy workouts, anorism can burst in that case because high stress environment is created at the time of heavy lifting and sudden increase in blood pressure can cause aneurism. Apart from this, conditions such as Marfon syndrome, fibrromscular dysplasia, arterial-shy’s wrong texture also cause brain aneurism.

What types of brain aneurism are there?

Brain aneurysm is quite common abroad, but if we talk about its types, then it is of 3 types. But of these, secular aneurysm is the most common.

Sacular aneurysm: It is also known as Berry Aneurism. In appearance, it resembles the berry hanging on the vine because it is a small bag filled with round blood. It is formed on the arteries of the brain and is the most common type.

Fusform aneurysm: Due to aneuryism, it makes a blood bag around the artery and the artery is seen in more than 1 place.

Micotic aneurysm: When an infection affects the arteries of the brain, it can weaken the artery wall and become micotic aneurysm.

Symptoms of brain aneurism

Cases of excess brain energy do not show serious symptoms in the beginning but when they grow up, the artery can put pressure on the nerves or brain tissue around the artery, which shows the following symptoms.

  • Visit
  • Dementia
  • Rapid headache
  • Thunderclap headache
  • stiff neck
  • Tongue
  • Staining
  • Piercing
  • Tinge
  • Imbalance while walking
  • Annexis
  • Auria

In some cases, bleeding may be leaked from brain enrichm, in that case sudden, very serious headache symptoms may appear which can last from several days to two weeks.

How is the treatment of brain aneurysm?

Dr. Abhilash said, ‘It has 2-3 aspects. One is that the energy has been formed but is not torn. Now that he is not torn, the blood will not go inside that balloon in it. In such a situation, we pack the energy from inside like an angiogram. In this, we go inside and add metallic coil which is called endovascular coiling. Otherwise, by open surgery, we put a clip in it. It is called the procedure clipping. Enerism does not return to that place after just coiling or clipping.

‘But if the energy that bursts and gets bleeding, then the blood tube later shrinks because the blood comes out of it, then that condition is called Vasospas. Due to this, blood flow decreases but we have to keep high blood pressure to avoid it. ICU and ventilator also needs in this case because it becomes a little difficult case. When the blood pipe shrinks, they can have extra stroke, sometimes they can also die. This treatment lasts long and after that they also need rehabilitation.

How much risk from brain aneuryism?

According to Myoclinic, brain aneurysm is common but most brain aneurisms are not serious, especially if they are small. Most brain aneurisms do not explode and usually do not cause symptoms or health problems. Brain aneurysm in many people comes up during the test done for other conditions, but if they burst, then there may be a risk of life and it requires immediate treatment. If an unurnigned aneurysm puts pressure on the brain tissue or nerves, it can cause pain and other symptoms.

If you have a sudden, very fast headache, then you should immediately consult a doctor and also do tests given by them.
