MP Ziaur Rahman Burke was also included in the SP delegation. He reached Sambhal for the first time after the violence. The police had registered a case against him for inciting violence.
MP Burke said, ‘The incident that has happened has embarrassed not only Samajwadi but the entire state and country. It is true that Sambhal has been a very sensitive place. There were definitely fights among people here earlier. But it is also true that there has been no conflict between Hindus and Muslims here for 29 years. People were living peacefully and this peace has been set on fire.
‘Our peace has been snatched away. Five of our people have been killed. A case was filed against us only. On the case of electricity theft, he said that if the police baton disappears tomorrow, it will blame us only. If we do not get justice, we will go to court. Why was a case filed against me, when I was not in my senses that day?
Here, on the ongoing excavation in Sambhal, SP MP from Kairana Iqra Hasan said, ‘I think there is no need for all these things, because everyone has to follow the laws of our country. Now no one has any rule here. There is no dictatorship of anyone. There is a Places of Worship Act in the Constitution. Whatever was there in 1947, be it church, temple or mosque, it should remain in the same condition.
