RG Kar Doctor Rape Murder Case: The court has sentenced the main accused Sanjay Roy to life imprisonment in the case of rape and murder of a trainee female doctor in RG Kar Hospital. After this, CBI will now appeal in the High Court for death penalty against Sanjay Roy. Sealdah Court of Kolkata had convicted Sanjay Roy in this case on Saturday and sentenced Sanjay Roy on Monday.
The court said that convicted Sanjay Roy will have to remain in jail till his death. Apart from this, a fine of Rs 50 thousand has also been imposed on Sanjay Roy. The judge also ordered the state government to pay Rs 17 lakh as compensation to the victim’s family. Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had reached the High Court demanding death sentence for Sanjay Roy. CBI opposed the appeal of TMC Chief and said that only the prosecuting agency can challenge the sentence.
