Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama said in a written message that the grief caused by wars disturbs them. He appealed to the people to see their ‘alleged enemies’ as a human being, because such compassion can also resolve the most complex struggles in a peaceful manner.

The fourteenth Dalai Lama was the 90th birthday on July 6. He said this in a written message, which was read by a respected monk from Dharamshala at a memory ceremony held here on Sunday (July 13, 2025).

Scholars, researchers and prestigious spiritual leaders from different parts of India and the world gathered at a one -day conference here, organized to commemorate the 90th birthday of the 14th Dalai Lama. During this time, subjects like the relevance of Buddha religion and the relationship between traditional ethics and scientific evidence were discussed.

A film dedicated to the heritage of the fourteenth Dalai Lama was screened, while a special temporary exhibition was also organized at the venue. The exhibition displayed rare white-white photographs of his childhood, pictures of his meeting with the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and the then President Dr. Rajendra Prasad in the 1950s and pictures related to other important events of his life.

Dalai Lama appreciated the festival

An exhibition based on the life of Buddha and various places related to him was also organized at the venue. In the inaugural session of this conference organized by the International Buddhist Federation (IBC), a written message on the July 8 was sent on behalf of Samdong Rimche.

The Dalai Lama said, ‘As an ordinary Buddhist monk, I usually do not pay much attention to birthday celebrations. However, you are using this opportunity to highlight the importance of compassion, harmony and philanthropy in the world, so I want to express my appreciation.

Special proximity with India

He said in his message that it has been more than 66 years now, when he himself and a large number of Tibetan people managed to come to India after the ‘attack on Tibet by Chinese Communist’. The Tibetan spiritual leader said that since then he has got the freedom and opportunity to continue studying ancient Indian knowledge. The Dalai Lama said, ‘I feel a special closeness with this country.’

The Dalai Lama said that if the ancient knowledge tradition of India, including the teachings of Buddha, is associated with modern education, then it can be helpful in ‘large peace and happiness’ in the world. I pray that more peace and understanding increase in the world. Due to the war, I feel very sad to see such a large number of people in trouble.

No war, peaceful agreement is solution

His remarks have come under the backdrop of the ongoing wars and conflicts in different parts of the world. He said, ‘If we accept our common humanity, understand that those whom we consider to be’ alleged enemies ‘, then I really believe that we can find a peaceful solution to the most difficult struggles, but for this it is necessary to communicate and interact.’

He said, ‘I pray that collective efforts should be made to create a peaceful, more compassionate and without violence. In today’s time, interest in Buddhism is increasing among the Chinese people including the mainland China.

Thanks to India and Indians

The Dalai Lama said that scientists are also interested in knowing the Buddhist vision of Buddhist philosophy and the functioning of mind and emotions. He expressed his gratitude to India and Indians, saying, “Tibetan people are extremely grateful for the warmth and hospitality shown to the Government of India and the public since 1959.”

He said that in the end, I think my life has been beneficial for people around the world and I dedicate my rest of my life to the service of others. The conference held at Ashok Hotel was also attended by international and national Buddhist monks including Buddhist monks from Thailand, Malaysia and other Buddhist countries.
