There was a fierce violence during the demonstration of Activist and Environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk to demand Ladakh a separate state. For this reason, he has been arrested under the National Security Act (NSA). The entire opposition is an attack on the Modi government for the arrest of Wangchuk. Due to violence, there is still curfew in Leh.
Congress spokesperson Shama Mohammad spoke to news agency ANI on Saturday (September 27, 2025) in Delhi, saying that Sonam Wangchuk’s arrest is unfair and undemocratic. He (the central government) promised him (the people of Ladakh) the sixth schedule in the last panchayat elections, now they are not fulfilling it.
‘Sonam Wangchuk was with you at the time of creating union territory’
Shama Mohammed said that she (Modi government) wants to convince the people that they are good, but they arrested the person who was with him at the time of making Ladakh a union territory.

Shama Mohammad demands Ajit Doval’s resignation
The Congress leader surrounded the government and said that the Modi government claims that this protest was pre-planned, so why did the intelligence agencies not get a glimpse despite Ladakh being a high-Khukhi area? He further said what is a man named Ajit Doval doing? Now the time has come that they should resign and Sonam Wangchuk should be released as soon as possible. We strongly condemn his arrest.
In the areas of Ladakh, in the areas where there was a ruckus, the government has deployed additional security forces. The administration has held Sonam Wangchuk responsible for provoking violence, saying that her inflammatory statements provoked the youth. Internet speed in Leh has been slowed down.
