Manmohan Singh Memorial Controversy: Former President Pranab Mukherjee’s daughter Sharmistha Mukherjee has criticized Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s proposal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to build a separate memorial for former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Sharmistha reacted sharply to this and said that the Congress leadership had not even called any condolence meeting after her father’s death.
Sharmistha Mukherjee alleged in a post on social media that the Congress Working Committee (CWC) did not hold any condolence meeting on the death of her father in August 2020. Along with this, he also said that a senior Congress leader had told him that such meetings are not organized for the Indian President, which he called “extremely absurd”.

Sharmistha also revealed that she learned from her father’s diary that former President K.R. A meeting of the Congress Working Committee was called on the death of Narayanan and the draft of the condolence message was also prepared by his father Pranab Mukherjee. He expressed deep displeasure over this attitude of Congress.
Congress did not build a memorial for PV Narasimha Rao in 2004.
Sharmistha BJP leader C.R. Kesavan’s post was also cited in which it was mentioned how Congress ignored other party leaders because they were not members of the “Gandhi family”. He also reminded that Congress had not built any memorial in Delhi for former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, who died in 2004, nor had expressed its desire to perform his last rites in Delhi.
