‘Shriram was an accused who was forgiven’, controversial statement of poet Vairamuthu, created a ruckus

A comment from Tamil lyricist and poet Vairamuthu about Lord Rama has created a controversy. In fact, poet Vairamuthu made this comment during an award in the name of the Tamil edition of Ramayana, the author of Kamba Ramayanam and the ancient poet Cambar.

Speaking on a dialogue spoken by Bali in the epic composed by poet Kambar, poet Vairamuthu said, ‘Bali, raises questions on the works of Rama. Bali explains the difference between Shri Ram’s rule and the conduct between his exile.

Bali’s rule assigned to brother

Vairamuthu said that in the epic, Bali says that Ram had left the kingdom for his brother, but in the forest, Bali’s rule was handed over to his brother. Bali suggests that Rama’s actions can be forgiven, because after losing mother Sita, she lost her mind.

No crime in IPC section

Vairamuthu said the meaning of a verse and said, ‘Ram is losing his conscience after losing Sita. According to the Indian Penal Code (IPC) the crime committed by the person who has lost Vivek is not considered a crime. According to Section 84 of the IPC, no crime committed by the mad person cannot be considered in the category of crime.

He further said that I do not know whether Kambar had knowledge of IPC or not, but he knew the society. According to this, Ram was an accused, who was acquitted, forgiven and he became human, while Kamb became God.
