Shubman Gill broke Graham Gooch’s record of 752 runs in the Indo-England Test series. Gill scored 753* runs in five matches. He also broke the record of the highest run of Sunil Gavaskar as captain.

New Delhi. Shubman Gill created history on Saturday (August 2) when he broke the record of scoring the most runs in the Test series played between India and England. Former England captain Graham Gooch scored 752 runs in three Tests against India in 1990. Gill, who is currently leading the Indian team in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Gill scored 722 runs in the first four matches and he needed to score at least 31 runs in the fifth Test to break Gooch’s record. He scored 21 runs in the first innings, so that he was left 10 runs away from breaking the 35 -year -old record of Gooch. Gill crossed the 10 -run figure in the first session of the third day in the second innings of the fifth Test.

Before breaking Gooch’s record, Gill also broke Sunil Gavaskar’s record of scoring the most runs in the Test series as India’s captain. Gavaskar played six matches as captain in the Indo-West Indies Test series in 1978-79 and scored a total of 732 runs.

25 -year -old Shubman Gill will have to score at least 32 runs in the second innings to break this record. If Gill scored 68 runs in the second innings, he will also break Don Bradman’s record of scoring the most runs in the Test series as captain. Bradman scored a total of 810 runs in five matches against England in the 1936–37 Ashes series.
