It has been raining torrential for the past several days in the north region of Sikkim. Due to which landslides have occurred on many main roads, due to which more than 500 tourists have been trapped in different places.
The administration has informed that the road connecting Lachan and Lachung to Chungthang has been the most affected.
What has happened so far?
On Thursday night, a tourist train fell into a thousand feet ditch in Munsithghan area of ​​Mangal district. After which the train directly got absorbed into the Teesta River.
When the vehicle became the victim of the accident, there were a total of 11 people on board. One died in this accident, two injured and 8 people are still missing. It is being told that some of these tourists are from Odisha.
A rescue campaign was conducted to save the people. However, the searches of tourists were stopped under the rescue campaign due to the rise in the water level in the Teesta River.

What step did the administration take?
The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has issued a red alert regarding rain. A new permit will not be issued for tourists in North Sikkim till further orders.

The administration has appealed to the tourists to avoid traveling to North Sikkim until the weather changes. Also, it was said to pay attention to the information of the Meteorological Department and the official announcements.
The administration asked relatives of tourists trapped in North Sikkim to contact the helpline.
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of more torrential rain in the coming days. As soon as the weather will be favorable, cleaning the roads and trying to remove the tourists.
