The sacred and holy month of Sawan is dedicated to a Mahadev Shiva in Tridevas. Therefore, apart from Shivaratri coming in Phalgun month, Shravan (Sawan) has a different significance of Shivaratri. During this time, there is a law of Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva and it is believed that Mahadev is pleased if these Jalabhishek is from Ganga water. By the way, just as every Kankar Shankar is Shankar, every pure water is Ganga water. It is only a matter of emotion and Mahadev only sees the spirit.
It is a symbol of pure spirit and dedication to him, one of Dwadash Jyotirlinga Somnath. This Lingam was founded by Chandradev himself and Shiva was applied at this place with his pure spirit and made him a jewelery of his head and called Chandrashekhar. In this way, this form of Shivalingam, who is the lord of Som (Chandra), is called Somnath and Shiva became sitting here in his share to do welfare of human beings.
What is the interpretation of the word Shankar?
Who is Shiva? One who is the ultimate element -endless, infinite, incompatible, unborn and omnipresent, is Shiva. Lord Shankar means’Shan Kalyanam Karoti Iti Shankar:‘, Who is seated only for the welfare of human beings, he is Shankar. Shiva means welfare.
Connected with the Vishalakshi Shaktipeeth present in Prayagraj, Swami Akhandanand ji explains Shiva Swaroop, while referring to the Shiva Purana Kotirudra Samhita, he says that, ‘Ghosts live in gender form in every pilgrimage for the Kalyana of Lord Shankar beings. The virtuous place in which the devotees prayed for him, he appeared at the same place and then went there as Jyotirlinga. Lord Shiva is prevalent in the whole world in gender form and the whole world is absorbed in his lingam form. क्या क्या inguram every charachar vishwarupin ‘, that is, this grace is the gender form of Lord Shiva.
Why is Somnath the best?
Although there are innumerable Shivalingas among different dhams on earth, Dwadash Jyotirlinga is the most prominent among them and Sreesomnath is also the distinction of this Dhara Dham being Adi Jyotirlinga.
In its glory, there is a description in the Puranas that-
Saurashtra Desh Vishdetiramaye,
Jyotirmayam Chandrakalavasantam.
Bhakti provided Kripavati,
Tan Somnathan Sharanam Prapaday ..
(Those who have passed the heart in Saurashtra in the state of Saurashtra, very delightful to provide their devotion, the moon whose forehead has ornaments, take refuge in Lord Somnath’s form of Lord Somnath.)
Swami Akhandanand says that if there is a question of the origin of Somnath Lingam, then its disclosure is said to be done along the earth. According to a legend, it is believed that Brahmadev visited Srisomnath, a self -styled touching, equal to the egg of the chicken within the land in the Prabhas region. He covered that linga with honey etc. and placed the Brahma-Shila on it and on it the prestige of Brahm-Lingam of Shri Somnath, the moon worshiped the same tree.
The history of Srisomnath’s desire in Shiva Purana is associated with the story of Daksha and Moon and the curse given to the moon by Daksha. The story comes in such a way that Daksha was the father of 60 girls born from the womb of Asivani. He gave 10 of them to Dharma, 13 to Kashyapa, 27 Moon, two ghosts, two to Angira, two to Krishash and the rest to Kashyapa.
Chandradev’s site of curse liberation
The Moon was very happy with 27 wives. Rohini was the most beautiful and all -virtue among the skilled girls. Moon started loving more than Rohini. The other 26 girls of Daksha were very sad due to this behavior of the moon. Unhappy girls went to their father Daksha and asked the remedy of prevention by giving the reason for their sorrow. Daksha became very sad due to this behavior of the moon. He went and explained a lot to the moon, but it did not affect the moon and thus anger Daksha cursed him as a terrible disease.

Do not respect the skin, yasmattvat
(Shiva Purana, Kotirudra Samhita)
With the curse by Daksha, the moon started to decrease on both days. His divine beauty was destroyed. Its earth also started having bad effects. In such a situation, the essence of food and medicines ended. Moon panicked and went to Brahma ji. Brahma ji expressed his inability to turn this curse from him and said that only Ashutosh Lord Shiva can turn this curse when happy. On the orders of Brahmaji, the Moon did harsh penance for the happiness of Shiva and chanting 10 crores of Mahamrityunjaya Mantra. Lord Shiva thanked him by giving him divine darshan. Lord Shiva said! “Chandra Dev, I am happy with you, you ask for a bride as per your wish”.
How did the moon become
Moon said! “Maheshwar, I am suffering from tuberculosis due to the curse of my revered father -in -law. You should forgive me and give me health and fame”. Lord Shiva said! “Chandradev, I give you immortality. Every day your art will be weak in Krishna Paksha, but in the same order in Shukla Paksha, one of your art will increase. Thus, on every full moon, you will be completed with 16 arts and become full lunar”. In this way, after receiving the grace of Lord Shiva, the moonless lunar became full.
Here, after accepting the prayer of the moon, Lord Shiva became located in the Prabhas region forever as Jyotirlinga including Bhavani. Since then, it has been famous that by the mere sight of Srisomnath Jyotirlinga, man is freed from all sins and goes to heaven after death after getting the desired fruit. He definitely gets that fruit for the purpose of wishes that humans see for the purpose of wishes.
