A very shocking case has come to light from Baldia village of Morada block in Odisha. Soren, a 65 -year -old widow woman living here, has been accused of selling her own 7 -year -old grandson for only 200 rupees. This incident has shook the entire area, after which the police immediately took action to save the child.
Without the house, land or government assistance, the den was struggling to stay alive. Her husband died and her son went missing. While his daughter-in-law died during the Kovid-19 epidemic. In such a situation, due to no means of taking care of her grandson, she went to her sister’s house in Raipal village of Rasgovindpur block. Here he lived by begging. However, due to his old age and weak health, it was difficult for him to take care of the child. Eventually he sold the boy to an unknown person for ₹ 200. According to the den, he felt that the person would get good food, shelter and education to the grandson.
After knowing about the incident, a local panchayat member informed the officials. After this, the Rasgovindpur police immediately started a campaign. The child was rescued and brought to the police station. Here the officials of the Child Protection Department and the Rasgovindpur CDPO (Child Development Project Officer) reached the police station. Now both grandmother and child have been kept under government protection.
An official of the Child Protection Department said that after investigation, it was found that the woman did not sell the child for financial benefit, but gave it to a couple for better care. She felt that she could not maintain it herself. However, the authorities were required to ensure the safety and goodness of the child, so it has been kept under the supervision of the Child Welfare Committee. Currently, the child has been transferred to the child protection center of Bharipada, where he will get proper care. Meanwhile, there is a demand from the government to provide pension benefits and housing assistance to the elderly grandmother.
