Geetanjali Angamo, wife of Sonam Wangchuk, arrested after the violence during the agitation demanding full state status to Ladakh, has responded to the ‘anti -national’ allegations against her on social media. On Monday, he shared two pictures, one of which is Wangchuk and Bangladesh’s interim leader Mohammad Yunus and in the second Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seen with Younus.
Geetanjali’s argument
Angamo wrote in the X post, ‘If it is okay for Honorable PM Modi to meet Mohammad Yunus, then why is it a problem for India’s educationist Sonam Wangchuk?’ He said that Wangchuk’s speeches were presented incorrectly. He had earlier included PM Modi in his argument and at an event held in Pakistan in February 2025, Wangchuk praised PM Modi, which he explained by linking it to the professional and United Nations Climate Conference.

Wangchuk was accused on social media that he provoked violence in the Ladakh movement. Security agencies say that Wangchuk cited the recent youth movement in Nepal and Bangladesh and the protest by students last year. Sonam Wangchuk is now closed under the National Security Act in Jodhpur Jail, which allows arrest for 12 months without trial.

The picture of Wangchuk and Yunus being described as ‘anti -national’ on social media is from 2020, when Wangchuk met Younus at the British High Commission in Dhaka. At the same time, the picture of Yunus and PM Modi is from April 2025, which was taken during the summit held in Bangkok.
Sources in India-Bangladesh relations
India and Dhaka’s relations have been tense since Yunus led the interim government of Bangladesh. India has repeatedly criticized the interim government’s violence and protest against the minorities. Former PM Sheikh Hasina’s presence in India has also become a sensitive issue in the relationship between the two countries.
