South Korea Plane Crash: A Jeju Air plane carrying 181 people crashed on Sunday (29 December 2024) at Muan International Airport in South Korea. According to news agency AFP, officials said that the accident occurred due to bad weather and bird collision with the plane. The Boeing 737-800, which took off from Bangkok, skidded off the runway while landing at 9.03am (local time) and crashed into a fence at Mueang International Airport.
Bird strike warning was issued earlier
According to the report of Yonhap News Agency, about 179 people died in this accident, while rescue workers rescued two people alive. According to a Times of India report, Transport Ministry officials have confirmed that the airport control tower had issued a bird strike warning shortly before the plane’s arrival. The pilots were advised to land the plane on another runway. Despite this warning, an attempt was made to land the plane in the same area, due to which this accident occurred.

According to reports, around 1,600 personnel, including police, soldiers and fire fighters, were deployed at the accident site. Lee Jeong-hyeon, chief of the Muan Fire Station, said, “The plane is almost completely destroyed, only its tail section remains. Bird hits plane before landing
A video of the plane before landing has surfaced on social media, in which it is seen that something suddenly hits the flight and then a huge balloon of smoke comes out. South Korea’s acting President Choi Sang-mok called an emergency meeting of top officials after this accident. He said that the government will handle the situation after the incident and help the families of the deceased.
