A total of 46 candidates are in the fray in Erode. Chandirakumar VC of DMK is leading from here. He has received 22682 votes till 11.43 pm. While NTK’s Sitalakshmi is second on this seat. He has received 4030 votes so far. At the same time, on this seat, Akhilesh Yadav fielded V Soundarya. The SP candidate has so far received only 45 votes.
Why the by -elections in Erode?
Erode seat was vacant since the death of Congress MLA EVKS Ilangovan. After this, the by -election has been held on the seat. DMK and Congress have an alliance in Tamil Nadu. This time the DMK has fielded its candidate from here. At the same time, BJP has boycotted from this election. The main contest is believed to be between DMK and NTK candidates.
The Erode Assembly seat was formed in 2008. Since then, 7 assembly elections and 3 Lok Sabha elections were held on this seat. Three times AIADMK partners won the 7 assembly elections and DMK four times. DMK is occupied by DMK since Jayalalithaa’s death here.
