SpiceJet’s flight going from Goa to Pune was averted by a major accident in SG1080. During the flight, a window frame of the aircraft suddenly loosened and left outward, causing panic among the passengers. However, the cockpit pressure was normal and no passenger was harmed.
The incident took place in SpiceJet’s Q400 aircraft on Tuesday. As soon as the flight was in the air, a passenger saw the window frame suddenly loose and made a video of it and posted it on social media. It can be clearly seen in the video that the window structure inside the plane is moving outwards.
Aircraft landed safely
SpiceJet said in an official statement that the window frame was not a structural part, but only a cosmetic trim (decorative cover), which was engaged to control the window shade. The company claimed that this did not affect the safety of the aircraft.
Fixed after landing
The airline said that after the aircraft landed safely at Pune Airport, the technical team corrected the bad frame, and further investigation was also done under the standard maintenance process.
A passenger shared a video of the incident on social media and raised the question whether this aircraft was really flying (airworth)? He also told that this aircraft was about to leave for Jaipur after Pune, which created more concern. He tagged DGCA and questioned the airworthiness of the aircraft.
SpiceJet also clarified that their Q400 aircraft contain strong windows with several layers, which also contains an external pressure-bearing pen that ensures passenger safety, so in any case there was no threat to the lives of passengers.
