Aamir Khan has made it clear that his next film ‘Stars Zameen Par’ will not be released on any streaming platform at the moment. Aamir admits that after the Kovid epidemic, the early OTT of films affected the theater experience. He says that good films should be seen on the big screen, so that the audience can enjoy real cinema.
Aamir Khan told how the increase of OTT platforms has damaged the culture of watching the film in the theater. He also said that by releasing films online very quickly, the audience’s habit of watching the film in the theater is getting over, which is not good for the soul of cinema.
Stars will not be available on the ground for free
In a conversation with Shosha, Aamir said, “I do not know any business where you offer your product, and if he does not buy, then you say- Never mind, in eight weeks I will send it to your house for free. It does not make any meaning. That is why many films are not doing well in theater nowadays.”
Aamir described the current situation as a “hunger and feast” model, where either some films earn too much or most do not last at all. He believes that early OTT’s coming to OTT is making the theater culture weak. Therefore, he has decided to release his next film ‘Stars Zameen Par’ only in the theater. He said, “I trust the theater. I trust my audience. If you make a good film, people will definitely come to see him on the big screen.”
Viewers away from theaters because of OTT
When he was asked about ‘Lal Singh Chadha’, which did not work much in the theater but he was appreciated on OTT, he said, “If someone did not like the film theater, it would not suddenly like to see him at home. Do not change your opinion about the film.”
Aamir also admitted that expensive tickets, food items and overall expensive experience in multiplexes the audience away from theater for ‘ordinary’ films and forces to wait for OTT. Despite this, Aamir said that he wants to make cinema from the heart, even if he is not necessarily the most “secure” option.
Aamir told that “After Lal Singh Chadha, everyone told me to do an action film. But the story of ‘Stars Zameen Par’ touched me inside. When a story gets into my blood, I cannot ignore him. The same happened with ‘Lagaan’, ‘Tare Zameen’ and ‘Dangal’.”
Do not tell piracy
Aamir spoke on piracy with this and said that it is very sad. “When you see a pirated version of a film, you are inadvertently causing great harm.” Aamir Khan said that many people do not understand its effect. Giving a deep comparison, he asked, “If you do not steal someone’s TV, then how can it be right to watch a pirated film? These two are the same thing.”
Aamir Khan has been working on ‘Stars on the ground’ for the last three years. He told that everyone’s feelings and hard work are associated with this film. “The hard work of these 10 children, Genelia, Prasanna, writer, head of every department and my own feeling is in this film. We want people to see it correctly, not through piracy.”
‘Stars on the ground’ is Aamir Khan’s return to the big screen, which is happening after a small break. The film is going to be released in theaters on 20 June 2025.
