New Delhi. Steve Smith, the star player of Australia cricket team and captain for the Champions Trophy, has announced to retire from ODI International cricket. He took this decision after the defeat in the semi -finals of the ICC Champions Trophy against India in Dubai on Tuesday. After the match, Smith told his colleagues that he was retiring from ODI cricket. Cricket Australia said that Smith will continue to play Test and T20 International. India won by 4 wickets after all out for 264 runs in the semi -finals.
Before the Champions Trophy, Steve Smith was made the captain of the team after the regular captain of Australia cricket team Pat Cummins was injured. Smith said. “It has been a great journey and I have enjoyed every moment. There have been many amazing moments and great memories. Winning two World Cups was a big achievement and many magnificent team colleagues were supported in this journey. Now it is a good chance to start preparing for 2027 World Cup, so I think this is the right time to give way.
