After the results of the Ludhiana by -election, internal differences in the Punjab Congress have emerged again. The recent social media post of former Deputy Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has given further air to the ongoing tussle within the party.
,
Randhawa indicated without naming anyone that hurrying in the race for the post of Chief Minister can harm the Congress. He wrote in Punjabi- “We should talk about winning the Congress, the Chief Minister will be formed only when the party will win. If you already become Chief Minister, the party will never win.”
The mutual tussle of the state leadership was considered a major reason behind the defeat of the Congress in the 2022 assembly elections. The party also suffered defeat in the subsequent by -elections. The Ludhiana by -election is the latest example of this, which is clear that the internal discord of the party still remains.

Stir from post after Ludhiana by -election
This post has come at a time when senior leaders have expressed dissatisfaction after the Congress defeat in the Ludhiana by -election. The Ludhiana West by -election was held on 19 June 2025, and its results were declared on 23 June. Senior Congress leader Bharat Bhushan Ashu was a candidate from this seat.
Although he was considered a minister in the former Akali-Congress rule and a strong leader in the region, this time he lost to Sanjeev Arora of AAP. Ashu got 24,542 votes, while Arora won 35,179 votes and registered a big win of 10,637 votes.
Congress’s internal factional
Even before the election, differences on Ashu’s candidature had emerged inside the party. Many local leaders in Ludhiana kept distance from campaigning, which led to the campaign ineffective. Not only this, Congress state head Amarinder Singh Raja Wading, who himself is an MP from Ludhiana, was seen only with Ashu on the day of nomination. After this, he did not campaign in favor of Ashu.
After the results, the process of allegations and counter-allegations between the leaders has also intensified. Charanjit Singh Channi and Raja Vading groups appeared face to face. This has made it clear that the Congress is still struggling with internal organized weaknesses.
