Even while holding the post of Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankhar often expressed his opinion on controversial issues and his statements made media headlines. He did not hold back from criticizing from the opposition to the ruling party. He even launched sharp attacks on the judiciary on several occasions on issues like corruption, alleged encroachment of jurisdiction and alleged reduction of accountability.
Told himself a walk soldier of the judiciary
Dhankhar resigned as Vice President on Monday evening citing health reasons. In March, the controversy over a large -scale bundles of notes at the official residence of Justice Yashwant Verma gave Dhankar another opportunity to target the high judiciary on the issue of alleged reduction of corruption and accountability.
Dhankhar questioned the courts and their various decisions. He described himself as a lawyer as a ‘foot soldier’ of the judiciary. He lashed out at the forces with harmful agenda to target other institutions including the judiciary in his public speeches.
Questions raised on Supreme Court
In many of his speeches as Vice Presidents, he questioned the Supreme Court’s decision to cancel the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) Act, which aims to reverse the current collegium system. He had questioned how the Supreme Court can cancel the law passed almost unanimously by both houses of Parliament.
Dhankhar also targeted MPs for not speaking against the Supreme Court’s decision. He had said that there was no discussion in Parliament after the Supreme Court canceled the NJAC Act, which is a very serious issue.
On democratic forces Nuclear Missile SC cannot stain ‘
He also questioned the schedule of taking decisions for the President of the judiciary and working as a super parliament. He had said that the Supreme Court cannot fract a nuclear missile on democratic forces. He made this strict remark in relation to the court when the Supreme Court had set a deadline for taking decisions on the Bills reserved by the Governor in an important decision a few days ago.
He had said, “We have Justice who will enact laws, which will work as the executive, which will act as a super parliament and will have no accountability, because the law of the country does not apply to them.” Dhankhar questioned the non -filing of FIR in the case after receiving cash bundles at Justice Verma’s residence. He had declared the three -member internal committee constituted by the then Chief Justice of India unconstitutional to investigate the incident.
