Supreme Court on Bengal Violence: During the hearing on the Waqf Amendment Act, Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna expressed concern over the Murshidabad violence. He said that the matter should not happen while pending in court. He also said that good things of the law should also be brought before the people.
When the Chief Justice, who is presiding over the bench of three judges, mentioned the incidents of violence, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who was present in the court, described it as a strategy of pressure. Mehta said that people think that by doing so, they can put pressure on the system. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing on behalf of the anti -Amendment Law Law, opposed Mehta’s talk. Sibal, who is telling the government’s law wrong, said who is making pressure? This cannot be said.
‘Tell me good things about law’
All these things happened when the bench was getting up after completing the day’s hearing. The Chief Justice, while interfering in the words of both senior lawyers, said that there are good things in the law. Efforts should be made to bring them to the people. His gesture clearly was that if people know the positive things of the law, then their opposition will be less.
Jama Masjid and Ayodhya also mentioned
Many interesting opportunities came during the hearing. Kapil Sibal, appearing for Maulana Arshad Madani, also expressed apprehension about the Waqf status of Jama Masjid in Delhi. On this, the Chief Justice told him that there is no danger to the Jama Masjid. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for another petitioner, mentioned the decision of the Ayodhya case. Singhvi said that in that decision, the Supreme Court had mentioned the Waqf by user, but now the Waqf by user has been completely abolished. On this, the judges said that the Privy Council had recognized the Waqf by user in the British era, but all these aspects will come in the discussion when there is a detailed hearing.
