Supreme Court Directs up Police to Complete Probe Against Abbas Ansari Within 10 Days in Gangster Act

The Supreme Court on Friday (February 21, 2025) directed the Uttar Pradesh Police to complete the investigation within 10 days in a case against MLA Abbas Ansari under the Gangster Act.

Justice Suryakant and Justice N. A bench of Kotishwar Singh said that after the investigation of the case, it would consider Ansari’s bail plea. Abbas Ansari had requested to appear through digital medium in a subordinate court proceedings in a case under the Gangster Act on 31 January for fear of encounter.

On December 18 last year, the Allahabad High Court rejected Abbas Ansari’s bail plea in the case in which he and some others were accused of forming gangs for financial and other benefits.

On August 31, 2024, Ansari, Navneet Sachan, Niyaz Ansari, Faraz Khan and Shahbaz Alam Khan filed an FIR under Section Two, three of the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti -Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986 at Kotwali Karvi police station in Chitrakoot district. Went.

He was accused of extortion and assault. Abbas Ansari is a MLA from Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) from Mau constituency. Rejecting the bail plea, the High Court had said that investigation in the case is going on. He was arrested on September 6, 2024 in this case.
