Supreme Court extended interim bail of convict Nitish Katara murder case for four weeks

The Supreme Court has extended the interim bail of criminal Vikas Yadav, who is serving a 25 -year imprisonment in the 2002 Nitish Katara murder case, for four weeks. This petition is Justice MM Sundaresh and Justice K.K. Vinod was listed for hearing on July 1 before Chandran’s bench.

The bench said, “Although arguments have been made by both sides regarding the physical condition of the petitioner’s mother, we are in favor of extending the interim bail period four more weeks.” The Supreme Court clarified that no more relaxation will be given on medical basis for the expansion of the bail period.

The Supreme Court on April 24 this year gave Yadav interim bail to meet his ailing mother till May 8, but later it was expanded three times (on May 8, 19 and June 17). Vikas Yadav’s lawyer cited one of the conditions imposed by the Supreme Court on 24 April.

He sought relaxation in the condition of bail, according to which Vikas Yadav has to stay at his house in Ghaziabad during the interim bail period. The lawyer said that Vikas Yadav’s mother has already undergone surgery and she (client) wants to seek medical advice for further treatment of the sick mother.

The lawyer cited Vikas Yadav’s imprisonment for nearly 23 years. The bench said, “The order imposed earlier under the order of April 24, 2025 is relaxed under which Vikas Yadav was to stay at his residence during the interim bail period, but the petitioner will get this laxity only to bring the mother to the hospital."Text-Align: justify;"> On April 24, the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Vikas Yadav to meet his ailing mother and directed that the medical board of AIIMS doctors should investigate her.
