Supreme Court Judge Oka Said to Lawyer You May Not Like The Judge But No Harm Apologizing to Institution

On Thursday (February 20, 2025), a lawyer who requested a adjournment, citing the unavailability of senior advocate Harish Salve to appear in a case was reprimanded by the Supreme Court on Thursday (February 20, 2025). The senior advocate told the apex court on Thursday that his request was made without their knowledge,

A bench of Justice AS Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan told a lawyer from the Salve’s office that he was not given any information about this at all. Justice Oka said, “If the lawyers apologize to the court, there will be no harm in this.” He said, ‘You may not like the judge, but there is no harm in apologizing to the institution. You may not like any judge, but even the junior members of the bar do not see that remorse. This will be harmful for them in future.

‘Never take the court lightly’
When the court asked the lawyer, ‘What action should be taken against the lawyer who took the postpone in the name of Salve, the lawyer appearing on behalf of Salve’s office said,’ One thing was taught to us again and again that the court ever taught the court ever Do not take it lightly. This is your temple, you have to present here and here you have to bow down. Some people are doing this in his (Salve’s) name and they are sad that they do not even know about it and people go and mention them on their behalf.

On February 19, the lawyer seeking adjournment, appeared before the bench and said that he was working on the instructions of the client. The lawyer had requested the court to adjourn the hearing of the case for 4 weeks, saying that senior advocate Harish Salve would debate the matter.

After this, the apex court expressed its disagreement. The bench had said, ‘Do you think if you name a senior lawyer, we will postpone the matter? This trend of lawyers should stop. We will not postpone the case just because you have named a senior lawyer. However, the request was accepted and the hearing was postponed.
