Supreme Court Justice Surya Kant Angry on Advocate on Record for mentioning a Word 20 Times

On Thursday (March 20, 2025), the Supreme Court reprimanded a lawyer that he had repeatedly written ‘consent relations’ in his client’s bail plea. The court provoked them and said that they do not even know about the basic law. The petition mentioned a minor girl, on which the court told the lawyer that the law does not know that when the victim is a minor, the consent does not matter.

According to the PTI report, the lawyer wrote a ‘consent relationship’ 20 times in the petition. Justice Suryakant said, ‘We got upset after reading the petition. In the SLP (Special Permission Petition), you have written a relationship with consent at least 20 times. What is the age of the girl? You yourself said in the petition that he is a minor.

The bench wanted to clarify the fact with the lawyer that if the victim is a minor, the consent does not matter. The bench of Justice N. Kotishwar Singh and Justice Suryakant was hearing on the case. Justice Suryakant said, ‘You have written a relationship with consent in every paragraph. What do you mean by consent relationship? You do not even know the ABCD of the law … Why are you filing SLP.

The Supreme Court asked the lawyer, ‘Are you AOR (Advocate-on-Cord)?’ AORs are lawyers who have the right to file a case in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court conducts AOR exam for lawyers.

The Supreme Court said, ‘How have these people become Aor? Do you not know basic laws? 20 times you have written a relationship with consent. The lawyer apologized to the bench and after this the Supreme Court issued a notice to the police and others on the bail plea.
